Soylent Follow-up #1
I'm trying Vanilla and Chocolate mass builder at the moment. Nutritech is excellent, pharmaceutical grade, and it mixes really well with added lactase enzymes. Chocolate + Olive oil tastes better than Vanilla + Olive oil, but both tastes quite salty, even though it contains no salt or Sodium!
Note that I did not mention Sodium as an ingredient in the previous post, but it is required and obtained from a teaspoon of Himalayan Pink salt, ideally.
If you are South African, you will do really well with Dis-Chem's Spectrum Multivitamin+mineral, but it is still hard to get Potassium Gluconate Powder unless you import.

Living on a liquid diet is quite an adjustment, and in my experience you will crave for solid food, so it does take time. This is not for everyone, and I am only doing it as an experiment.
However, actually getting 100% RDA nutrients every day makes a huge difference. I have never felt so composed, focused, calm and powerful as I do now, even from the first day.
I have realized how much my usual diet lacked in the proper array of nutrients. I would partake in solid food when cravings overwhelm, but I would not be dependent on food save for the baseline Soylent consumed each day. Then one has to freedom to omit foods that are less than ideal, like sugars, gluten and excessive red meat.
Care should be taken to optimally digest the whey mix, this is accomplished by making the mixture as thick as possible and allowing for 2 hours to digest before drinking liquids again. You will find that if you drink lots of water directly after consuming the mix, then you are diluting the solution which will result in poorer absorption. Unabsorbed protein will cause gas in the intestines, but if the solution is kept concentrated in the stomach and time is allowed for proper absorption then gas is minimized and absorption maximized.

I'm wondering how/if your sleep cycle is affected and also if you experience any cravings for types of solid food throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteI can only speak from my own experience, but I sleep so much better and deeper. Nutritional deficiencies and bad foods will affect sleep cycles, but fully nourishing your body, that'll just help if anything.
ReplyDeleteMostly one's sleeping cycle is primarily established by habit, although I have found that such proper nourishment delays the onset of acute sleepiness, yet following one's usual sleep routine is easy.
Try eating a lot of spinach before going to sleep; at least I have found that sleep then is so deep and hearty. Similar to how sleep is now with proper nourishment, which I realize I did not really have before.
Yes I do experience food cravings, one can drink more malto+whey, but the body and senses still crave what it is used to. I feel like I am able to eat a number of pizzas, yet if I place my mind from the thought then hunger does not bother. I desire food, but I'm not really hungry, if that makes sense.
In many ways drinking 'Soylent' is like a juice fast, only better, since you get all the benefits of a fast, i.e. clear mind and higher perceptions, without the hunger or malnourishment. It is a big change to the body, and one has to allow time for it to adapt.
Though, currently I'm just saying that I want to add all the missing nutrients and subtract all the irritants and bad foods like sugars and gluten. That way one can still enjoy good food and enjoy the benefits of complete nourishment.
I am considering replacing two of my meals per day with something like the Soylent mixture and then eating a light meal with my family in the evening (mostly for the social experience).
ReplyDeleteYour list in your original post has been very helpful to me in sourcing most of the components although it looks like I'll need to find a local source for the malto+whey component.
Thank-you very much
Teaspoon of salt!? No wonder it tastes salty. I use a 1/4 tsp. of Morton's Iodized table salt, and it's just fine. I can always add a bit of salt when/if needed. Given that a 1/4 tsp. is 1.5g of sodium, you're at 6 grams with a full teaspoon.
